Amber Hunt at Night with UV Torches

Amber is the fossilised tree resin from pine trees that were native to southern Scandinavia 30-50 million years ago. When these conifers were damaged, liquid resin oozed out of the tree bark. The drops of resin dried quickly in the air. Over time, the coniferous forest sank into the sea. The dried resin is now washed up on the beaches of the Baltic Sea in the form of amber. If the amber contains inclusions of insects or plant parts, for example, these are known as inclusions.

Searching for amber on the beach is like a treasure hunt!

You can find and identify amber more easily with an amber torch light that we can provide. In the dark, amber glows neon green in UV light and can therefore be easily distinguished from other jetsam. Belemnites, which glow orange, are also likely to be found.

You have found something and you are not sure if it's really amber? You will receive instructions from us on how to test amber for authenticity.

Due to its low weight, amber is most likely to be found on higher sandy beaches, where mussel shells, coarse seaweed and small pieces of wood are also deposited. On Møn, the southern beaches of the island and Ulvshale Strand are among the best ‘hunting grounds’ for amber.

It is good idea to combine the pick-up or drop-off with a visit to the Stone Age burial mound Klekkende Høj. This is the only burial mound on Møn with two burial chambers, one of which is accessible and can be ‘crawled’ into. Admission is free. Our farm is located right next to Klekkende Høj.

We wish you good luck and success in your search for the ‘gold of the north’, also known as ‘beach gold’! You will have fun in any case.
